Bouteloua gracilis - Blue Gramma Grass
This can be used as a grass substitute for lawns. Very tough and drought tolerant. The flower heads turn purple-ish as they mature.

Carex muskingumensis
This is a fine grass for the garden. Supposed to be for moister areas of the garden, however it flourished in the front rock garden where it is dry and hot. I will try it in a wetter spot next year and see what it does. Soft green foliage with wonderful contrasting brown seed heads. Very nice.

Bottlebrush Grass Very nice grass to add into the garden. Produces seed heads that resemble a bottlebrush. Does well in a part shade location, especially under trees.

Luzula nivea - Snowy Wood rush
Rushes are in the same botanical class as grasses and sedges. Very easy to grow and will develop into a good sized clump within a few years. Easy to divide. Hairy grass like leaves with white flowers in the spring. Good for winter interest, as long as the snow is not too deep.

Melica altissima autropurpurea
I won't beat around the bush, this is a vigorous grass! It grows vigorously and it self seeds with the same wild abandon. Every plant has its spot though. The upsides are that it is drought resistant once established and the deer do leave it alone. The seed heads are a wonderful deep purple and make a neat rustling sound with the slightest breeze.
